Pixel 7

Later today, Google will finally officially lift the veil on its new high-end smartphones, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. However, just before the launch, the smartphones have already been tested.

Pixel 7

Ahead of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro launch at 4 p.m., a video shared on Facebook gives us a first look at the performance of the two devices. The smartphones and their new Tensor G2 chip had already been spotted on Geekbench, but no score had been released so far. As one might expect, it fails to do as well as the competition.

Indeed, we could see that the Tensor G2 processor was only a meager evolution compared to the previous generation. The chip still relied on an 8-core configuration with 2 Cortex-X1 cores, 2 Cortex-A76 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. Contrary to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips that have already switched to ARM’s new V9 architecturethose of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will keep the old architecture, which was found in 2021 on the Snapdragon 888.

What performance for Pixel 7 and 7 Pro?

A benchmark on Geekbench 5 reveals that the Pixel 7 Pro reaches 1068 points on a heart, and 3149 points in mukticoor. The chip is therefore not at the level of high-end Android smartphones of 2022, which all manage to achieve better scores. It also does as well as the Pixel 6 on one core, and only 10% better on multiple cores.

On the famous AnTuTu V9 brenchmark, the finding is more damning. The Pixel 7 Pro only gets 801116 pointsfar from the million points of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The performance gap before the best Android smartphones of the moment will also intensify rapidly, since Qualcomm will present its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip in mid-November. The Xiaomi 13 should be the first smartphone to use it, and it is expected to exceed the 1,200,000 points on the benchmark, which would make it 50% stronger than the Pixel 7 Pro.

Despite a rather disappointing raw power, Google’s Tensor G2 chip would bet everything on its artificial intelligence. It could be one of the smartest processors on the market.
