A new update has arrived that will allow players to link their PlayStation Network and Steam accounts, here’s the process.

The first game that allows you to do this is Marvel’s Spider-Man, which received a patch that added the feature.

Evidence of planned connectivity between the PlayStation Network and the PC versions of Sony’s games was discovered earlier this year, but was only made official with today’s update.

A new registration page is also available on the PlayStation website that allows players to connect between their accounts.

The site states the following

“Link your Steam account to PlayStation Network to receive unlocks on this and other PlayStation Studios games”

“You’ll also get the latest news, updates and deals on PlayStation Studios games on PC or PlayStation platforms. Sign up by creating a Sony account for PlayStation Network or by signing in with your existing Sony account and password.

“For new accounts, you can opt-in to receive email and console messages when you create your account. For existing accounts, please opt in to receive messages via the ‘Notifications’ tab in your account settings.”

PC Gaming in the sights of PlayStation

Earlier this year, files were found that referenced this type of connectivity in the Spider-Man game.

Several of the game files contained various references to “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements”.

It’s currently unclear if Sony’s other PC releases will be updated with similar functionality, but in particular, the image on the PlayStation PC registration site shows the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection, coming to PC later this year. this month, as well as God of War and Days Gone, which was previously released on PC.

PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst recently said that future Sony console games will have to wait “at least a year” before coming to PC, in addition to live service titles.

Sony’s sixth PC title, Spider-Man Remastered, launched in August. PC versions of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will follow later this year.

The traditionally console-focused company expects half of its annual releases to be on PC and mobile by 2025.
