After a decade of history, Electronic Arts (EA) has marked the definitive end for Origin, its default video game launcher that had a life full of criticism and dissatisfaction.
The news was confirmed by the publisher through an entry in its press room, from where it stated that Origin will be replaced by EA App, its new platform that promises to be the “fastest and lightest PC client to date”.
The movement occurs after Electronic Arts recognized that Origin is far from meeting the needs and demands of today’s players.
“For more than 10 years we have welcomed millions of people to our Origin platform, we have listened to their feedback and we have recognized the limitations of this platform in a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape,” they said from EA.
The bet to cover this area of opportunity will be EA App (also known as EA Play) that after some time in open beta phase, is now preparing to completely replace Origin, although there is no exact date for this to happen.
“Today we are pleased to announce that the EA app has passed Open Beta and will soon replace Origin as our primary platform on PC. EA app is our fastest and lightest PC client to date”
What is EA App like? What’s new from Electronic Arts
The first thing that Electronic Arts highlights about its new app is the design of the interface, which is minimalist and at least on paper, will allow players to find, discover and download games with simpler processes and with few brakes on the gaming experience .
EA APP will offer automatic downloads and updates of games in the background, which provides a significant improvement for users.
Additionally, the new Electronic Arts platform will allow the EA account to be linked with Steam, Xbox and PlayStation, which means that we will have games and cross-progress within those titles that allow it, while we will be able to know who is online and what they are playing.
For now, EA APP will only be available for Windows. Mac gamers will continue to use Origin, although this is expected to change in the coming months.
In regards to the transition process between the two platforms, Electronic Arts will start sending out invitations to players with the promise that “all your games and content, including previously installed games” will be ready in the EA APP to play.
“Your local and cloud saves will carry over so you can pick up where you left off. And your friends list too, so you don’t have to worry about remembering all those IDs.”
