On the occasion of the release of patch 6.2, we were able to speak with Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV. A good opportunity to discuss with him the current state of the title after this update, but also the new features planned for the future.

Final Fantasy XIV: Naoki Yoshida tells us about the future of the title! Final Fantasy XIV: What future for Square Enix’s online role-playing game? His producer answers us!

Summary

  • Island Bliss, FFXIV’s Animal Crossing Mode
  • New types of dungeons?
  • FF14’s PVP Experience
  • Upcoming job adjustments?
  • The problem of housing and housing

Island Bliss, FFXIV’s Animal Crossing Mode

Island Bliss was surely the most anticipated content of patch 6.2 and players are very satisfied with what we have seen from the first feedback. Do you plan to add new content or new features for this game mode, and if so, which ones?

Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV:

First, I was relieved to see that there were no gigantic bugs and the content was well received. Right now, we are already working on Island Bliss updates as per our plan. Thus, we are going to expand areas to develop your island and add facilities that can be built. Of course, we also plan to respond to the detailed player feedback we received after the launch of this content.

New types of dungeons?

Slated for patch 6.25, can you tell us about alternate dungeons and branching dungeons, what can players expect?

Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV:

First of all, branching dungeons offer a new type of dungeon that can be enjoyed casually. Thus, players can freely choose to take on the challenge solo or in a group of up to four people. Going through the dungeon multiple times will allow players to explore more and get a better sense of the story. These aspects are also a new type of gaming experience.

When it comes to alt dungeons, for many years the community has been asking “we want content that requires a high level of gear for small groups!”. Well, these dungeons are the answer to this request, so be sure to take on these challenges that you can only enjoy within a small group of comrades!

FF14’s PVP Experience

Added with patch 6.1, the Crystalline Conflict mode has come to bring a new PVP experience to Final Fantasy XIV. What has been the feedback from the players so far and do you plan to add new features for the next seasons, both in Crystalline Conflict and in the other PVP modes?

Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV:

Since many FFXIV players are fans of the Final Fantasy series or RPGs in general, a large number of them mentioned that they were not comfortable with PvP (Player versus Player) where they are in direct competition to eliminate other players. This is especially the case in matches where each player is tied to a specific role, especially for healers who carry a huge responsibility and have to do a lot, something we’ve received a lot of feedback on.

In Crystalline Conflict, we’ve based the rules around some sort of “territorial” element, and we’ve provided healing abilities for each role. We’ve based the rules themselves around some sort of “territory” element, and we’ve provided healing abilities for each role. Thus, we were able to offer intense matches while giving freedom for the choice of jobs. In the future, we will respond to player feedback by first making fixes to each type of PvP content based on adjusting all jobs. We are also working on creating new maps.

Upcoming job adjustments?

If there are no major job-related changes in Patch 6.2, what kind of adjustments can players expect in the future? After watching the 72nd Letter from the Producer, it’s my understanding that these changes aren’t going to appeal to everyone, so you want to properly explain them to players before implementing them in-game.

Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV:

Between now and the next expansion, the main thing we’re working on is balancing each job. Patch 6.2 includes major changes to the crit and net hit formula, so adjustments will continue to be made accordingly.

The problem of housing and housing

For some time, Final Fantasy XIV seems to suffer from a problem with the distribution of houses in residential areas, the fault of too many players. What means do you have at the moment to solve this problem and do you think there are long-term solutions to prevent it from happening again?

Naoki Yoshida, director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV:

As I mentioned several times, the only way to fundamentally solve this problem is to increase the number of servers. You see, there is no other way to meet the demand than to increase the number of servers and add a considerable number of additional plots in the residential districts.

We are currently in the process of increasing the number of servers to improve the capacity of all worlds. As soon as this is done, we plan to allocate resources to work on increasing the number of plots. Finally, the global shortage of semiconductors has started to ease gradually, so we ask you to be patient for a little longer.
