6000 hours of game lost: the harsh reality of the closure of Stadia - News

It’s a constant, transferring your backups from one machine to another, from one service to another or from one storage model to another is rarely a walk in the park. The challenge is all the more salty if one of the media in question no longer exists, which will be the case for the Stadia service on January 18. To the chagrin of many players who have chained the hours on the few games in the catalog, or on one of them in particular, like the Youtubeur Colour, whose 6000 hours on Red Dead Online seem doomed to disappear. Having chosen this platform for the ease of access to online mode and the possibility of playing without owning a console or an expensive PC, the young man finds himself, like others, without a valid solution from Google. And for the moment, his foot calls to Rockstar in an attempt to find a way out have gone – unsurprisingly – unanswered.

But more than an isolated case, as iconic as it is, this notion of game data recovery is taken very seriously by several studios and publishers, in particular Bungie and Ubisoft. The first indicated on one of the forums of his official site, that he had started to set up a reflection on the subject: “We just learned of Stadia’s shutdown and have started discussing next steps for our players. We will announce and send information regarding Stadia accounts in Destiny 2 when we have an action plan”. On the Ubi side, it is specified on the company’s Twitter account that solutions are also being built: “We are happy to announce that we are working to transfer the games you own on Stadia to the PC via Ubisoft Connect. We will have more information to share with you regarding the specific details as well as the consequences for Ubisoft+ subscribers at a later date.“Hopefully for Color, Rockstar will also get their hands dirty by early next year.
