Analysis company IDC reported a collapse of 15% of the PC market in the third quarter of 2022, for 74.3 million units. This is yet another negative result for the sector, which comes from a long trail of negative results.

According to IDC, demand remained weak despite attempts by Apple and other companies to promote the industry and their products. Stores and chains reacted to the decline by reducing orders, with the only exception of Apple“as third-quarter supply increased to compensate for lost orders resulting from the blockade in China during the second quarter.”

In general, al request remains above pre-pandemic levels, but the continuing decline is starting to weigh. Of the top five companies, only Apple sold more units from the same period last year. Lenovo remains first in the PC space, with 16.9 million units sold (22.7% market share), but still recording a decline of 16.1% year-over-year.

HP is in second place, with 12.7 million units sold (17.1% of the market, down 27.8% year-over-year), while Dell is in third with 12 million units sold, 16.1 % of the market and a decline of 21.2% year-over-year. Apple is in fourth position with 10 million units sold, 13.5% of the market and a growth of 40.2% year on year for the reasons already expressed).
